How to buy crypto
on OKX.
From your first USDT to buying bitcoin and cashing out again. Read the P2P safety rules and the cash-out section — they cover the mistakes beginners make most.
The simplest way to buy your first crypto
Most beginners follow this route: buy USDT with your local currency → trade USDT for BTC or ETH on the spot market. USDT is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar — think of it as cash on the exchange.
- Card / bank transfer: fastest where available; fees vary by provider.
- P2P: buy from verified merchants using local payment methods, usually with no trading fee.
- Crypto deposit: already hold crypto elsewhere? Deposit it on-chain.
Buying USDT on P2P, step by step
- Complete identity verification and add a payment method in your own name.
- Open “Trade → P2P” (or “Buy crypto”) and choose “Buy USDT”.
- Enter the amount and pick a merchant with a verification badge, many orders and a high completion rate.
- Pay the exact amount shown in the order from your own account.
- Tap “I’ve paid” and wait for the merchant to release the USDT.
- Find it under Assets → Funding, and transfer it to your trading account.
Six P2P safety rules
- Verified merchants only; ignore prices far better than the market.
- Names must match: payer, OKX verified name and bank account holder are the same person.
- Stay on-platform: no WhatsApp, Telegram or off-platform transfers.
- Don’t write crypto words in payment notes unless the merchant’s terms require it.
- Keep sizes sensible and trade during normal hours.
- Save everything: screenshots, receipts and chat logs for at least six months.
Selling crypto and withdrawing to your bank
- Move USDT from your trading account to your funding account.
- Choose “Sell” (or P2P → Sell) and select a verified buyer.
- Wait for payment, then open your own banking app and confirm the full amount arrived from the buyer’s named account.
- Only then tap “Release”.
Payment screenshots and “bank SMS” images can be faked. If you can’t see the money in your own banking app, don’t release.
Buying bitcoin with USDT
- Go to “Trade → Spot” and search BTC/USDT.
- Use a limit order to set your price, or a market order to buy immediately.
- Check your BTC balance under Assets.

Buying & selling
FAQ.
01How do I buy crypto on OKX as a beginner?
Verify your identity, then use “Buy crypto”: pay by card or bank transfer where available, or use P2P to buy USDT from a verified merchant. Then trade USDT for BTC or ETH on the spot market.
02Which payment methods does OKX support?
It depends on your country: cards, bank transfers, third-party providers and P2P payment methods vary by region. The Buy crypto page shows what’s available to you.
03How long does a P2P order take?
Most merchants release crypto within minutes of payment. If a merchant doesn’t release in time, open an appeal on the order page and OKX support will step in.
04How do I withdraw from OKX to my bank?
Sell USDT via P2P or the Sell option where available. On P2P, only release your crypto after you’ve confirmed in your own banking app that the full payment has arrived from the buyer’s own account.
05What if I get scammed on P2P?
Keep all communication and payment inside the OKX order. Never release crypto before the money is in your account, and open an appeal immediately if anything looks wrong.
